Botanical family: Laminaceae or Labiatae

Sweet Marjoram is a perennial herb bush which is native to the Mediterranean region, and grows up to 20 inches in height. It produces velvety green leaves and soft purple flowers.

Sweet Marjoram's botanical name Origanum is derived from Greek , and means “joy of the mountains”.

Analgesic, anaphrodisiac, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiviral (Herpes), bactericidal, carminative, cordial, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, fungicidal, hypotensive, muscle relaxant, nervine, respiratory tonic, sedative, stomachic, vasodilator, vulnerary .

Uses / Benefits

Relaxing, calms nerves, helps lower blood pressure, very helpful for insomnia. Eases muscle tension and pain. Massaged on the abdomen it can relieve menstrual cramps. Stimulates and strengthens peristalsis, thus aiding digestive complaints. Effective against whooping cough, beneficial for colds and flu. Rubbed on the temples it can help relieve headaches and migraines. Reduces sexual desire. Promotes sleep.

Fragrant influences

Promotes self-nurture, honoring, comforting, restores hope. Useful for those suffering from loneliness or who are experiencing grief. Sweet Marjoram is not recommended for prolonged use (greater than 2 months) as it may have the effect of deadening the emotions.
