Botanical name :  Camellia oleifera
Extraction method / Source :  Cold Pressed / Seeds      Cold pressing produces a fine oil which retains its nutritive value.
Key constituents:   80% Oleic Acid, high levels of vitamin E and polyphenol antioxidants.
Plant description :  Botanical family :  Theaceae       

Camillia is a large evergreen shrub found primarily in China, where it grows wild in forests and at riverbanks, and is also widely cultivated.  It grows to a height of 20 feet and produces thick, dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers.  The flowers develop into seed pods which are collected and pressed for oil.
Regions of Production :  China

Growing Practices :   Organically farmed. Flowers and seeds are tested after harvest for purity. 

History / Fun Facts :  Camellia oil is the main cooking oil used in many Asian countries. It has fewer saturated fatty acids and more monounsaturated fatty acids than olive oil.  It is also used to protect traditional Japanese woodworking tools and cutlery from corrosion. 

Properties

Characteristics :  Yellow in color with a light, nutty flavor.
Properties :  Antioxidant,  hydrating
Uses :   Often used in soaps, lotions and creams for healthy skin and hair. The oil is easily absorbed without a greasy feeling, and keeps the skin hydrated as well as conditions and strengthens hair.  A great choice for correcting dry skin and brittle, damaged hair.
