Plant description :  Botanical family: Elaeagnaceae

Sea Buckthorn, alternately known as Sandthorn, Sallowthorn and Seaberry, is a deciduous shrub that is tolerant of salt in soil and air, and typically grows in dry, sandy areas. It produces stiff thorny branches and pale, silver-green leaves. This species has both male and female plants. Male shrubs produce brown flowers which send pollen to the female shrubs on the wind. Female shrubs produce juicy red berries which are rich in vitamins and emollient oils.

Properties

Characteristics :  Thick consistency, dark orange color, mild odor. May solidify at lower temperatures.

Properties :  Cicatrizant (wound healing), emollient

Uses :  Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil is used topically, specifically to treat damaged skin. With emollient components, and rich in beta carotene and Vitamin E, it promotes wound healing. The oil is highly concentrated, and can be used alone in very small amounts. However, it is best combined with other natural carrier oils and pure essential oils.

Storage :  Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Refrigeration prolongs the freshness of all natural oils.
