Plant description

Apricot is a deciduous tree which grows in temperate climates and can reach up to 40 feet in height. Its delicate white or pinkish flowers bloom in early spring before the leaves appear. The flowers develop into small, velvety, edible fruits. These fruits are yellow or orange with a red tinge, and are considered drupes. A drupe is a fruit which has a soft flesh and a single seed, or "kernel" enclosed in a hard shell. Cold pressing the kernel produces a fine, highly nutritious oil.
